Writer Peter O’Donnell is best known as the creator of Modesty Blaise but he was also a historical romance novelist with a total of nine novels credited under the pseudonym Madeleine Brent. Artist Jim Holdaway’s career began in advertising and but he then moved into freelance work drawing for Captain Vigour, The Football Comic, Steve Samson, Dick Hercules, Reveille, Tit-Bits, Comic Cuts, Junior Express and then Romeo Brown where he met Peter O’Donnell. Although since his death in 1970, Holdaway’s most famous work will always be Modesty Blaise, a 1960s cultural and female icon that still inspires today.
