Perhaps the most acclaimed war comic in British history, Charley’s War is rich in the detailed minutiae of the terror-punctuated existence of a Tommy. Charley is injured in a desperate fight for survival against the ‘Judgment Troopers’. Returning home to convalesce, he discovers that the Germans have brought the war to the streets of London! This volume features a new commentary by creator/writer Pat Mills, a feature on the Zeppelin-launched air raids of World War One and a rare interview with artist Joe Colquhoun.

Volume 3 chronicles the years of the War (17 October 1916 – 21 February 1917) from the point-of-view of Charley Bourne, a young man who lies about his age so that he can enlist in the First World War, fighting for his country. Charley has so far survived four months on the frontline but now he faces his most difficult challenge yet: a German counter-offensive of “Judgement Troopers”. Injured in battle, Charley returns to the safety of home only to discover that home is just as dangerous as the trenches. Germans are invading the streets of London!

“The most moving record on a human scale of the First World War in English language comics.”
Paul Gravett, Comics International

“Timelessly relevant and well-researched, this is a comics classic.” Publishers Weekly

“One of the finest, most fondly remembered British comic strips ever.” Uncut

“The beautiful artwork of Joe Colquhoun and the sheer genius of Pat Mills at his very, very best. The best comic strip you’ll ever read.” Garth Ennis, Preacher / War Stories
